Dr. Beach Rates Ocracoke Island as #1 Beach

On June 8, 2007 a crowd gathered at Ocracoke's "Lifeguard Beach" to hear an announcement by Dr. Beach (Florida International University professor Stephen Leatherman).

Dr. Beach announced his selection of America's ten best beaches for 2007. Dr. Beach agrees with many Ocracoke residents, long time visitors and first time guests. Ocracoke is the Number One Beach in America!

Ocracoke offers 16 miles of unspoiled beaches which are part of the National Park Service. Accessible only by ferry, private boat or plane, Ocracoke is a favorite destination for families, nature lovers, fisherman, recreational boaters and those simply searching for a slower pace.

Visitors spend their days at their favorite beach destination or explore all that the village has to offer. Many visitors prefer exploring the village by bike, which can be rented at several locations on Ocracoke.
