The Cape Hatteras National Seashore consists of over 70 miles of beautiful coastline that runs from Nags Head to Ocracoke. The national's first national seashore, Cape Hatteras National Seashore is enjoyed by many each year for the variety of activities it has to offer. Whether you enjoy surf fishing, swimming, surfing, kiteboarding, or simply just relaxing on the beach with a book, the Cape Hatteras National Seashore is waiting for you.

There are three lighthouse structures located along the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. The farthest north is the Bodie Island Lighthouse, which is located about 9 miles south of Nags Head. Next, visitors will enjoy a stop at the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse in Buxton, where many adventurers enjoy the climb to the top for incredible 360 degree views. Finally, the Ocracoke Lighthouse is located here on Ocracoke Island and was built in 1823 to mark Ocracoke Inlet and Silver Lake.

The National Park Service at Ocracoke Island Visitor Center offers a variety of educational programs, topics include: Barrier Island Nature, Outer Banks History, Graveyard of the Atlantic, Explore the Shore, Banker Ponies, and Morning Bird Walk, schedules and locations vary.
