Ocracoke Island Named Best Beach in US by Dr. Beach
June 8, 2007: Each year, international beach expert Dr. Stephen Leatherman, also known as Dr. Beach, releases an annual list of the "Top 10 Beaches in America." In 2007, Ocracoke Island was given the coveted title of "Best Beach in the United States." Criteria used for selection include physical factors, biological factors, presence of wildlife and pests, and human use and impacts.
