Description Welcome to the Aleta cottage. New for the 2012 Season.
This newly constructed cottage, named for Ocracoke's historic mail boat Aleta, is located on a canal in Oyster Creek. Enjoy a waterfront vacation on Ocracoke in this charming pet friendly cottage, perfect for a couple or small family. Aleta offers an open-designed living/dining area with vaulted ceilings, skylights, hardwood floors and a second story loft sitting and sleeping area. Handicap accessibility via entrance ramp, wide doors and 3' entrance door for first floor bathroom. Stall shower with Shower seat.
Named after Ocracoke's first passenger ferry. Aleta served as the island's lifeline, transporting mail, supplies and passengers to/from the mainland in the 1930's and 1940's. Built in 1923, Aleta first served the Morehead City-Atlantic mail run. Out of service after the building of the highway, Aleta had a short career as a Prohibition booze runner. After being seized by federal agents and sold at auction, Aleta began a new life servicing the residents of Ocracoke Island. Later used as a shrimp boat. Aleta was destroyed in a storm in the early 1960's.
The first floor offers the open living and dining area. A queen size sleeper sofa in the living area offers sleeping for 2 guests or optional sleeping arrangements.
Enjoy preparing meals in the generous kitchen which includes a dishwasher, microwave and wine refrigerator. An adjoining screened porch overlooks a pleasant rear yard with Live Oak trees and the bulkheaded canal. There is a full, handicap friendly, bathroom on the first floor.
The second floor loft features a sleeping area with Queen bed, sitting area and full bath.
Amenities include central heat and air conditioning, ceiling fans, wireless internet access, 2 cable TV's, DVD player, DVD and book library, stereo, iPod Speaker System and a fireplace in the off season. Additional amenities include washer/dryer, phones, answering machine, Pack-N-Play, high chair and baby gate. Iron and ironing board and hair dryer.
Enjoy covered porches, a screened porch, outdoor dining table, grill, fish cleaning table with water and electric, outdoor hot/cold shower, storage shed and two single person kayaks for exploring the nearby marshes. Beach chairs and umbrella.
Boat dockage at this property is located on the inner side of the canal bridge. Height clearance may be limited, dependant upon individual boat height. Boaters should anticipate five foot vertical clearance at high tide. Please call our office at 877-646-2822 to discuss height limitations.
Raised above ground level, Aleta offers covered parking underneath with both an exterior stairway and access ramp offering easy access and wheel chair accessibility.
Pets welcome - no pet fee (maximum 2 pets). Maximum 4 people, including children. Limit of 2 vehicles.
