Testimonials

May 2010
Trip #6. We loved the Scotch Bonnet so this is our 2nd visit here….Great to be here as usual. We took a sail on the Windfall, it was relaxing and the captain was great. The Pony Island has really good inexpensive homemade desserts! This was a well needed vacation (our year has been crazy so far). We have a call in to adopt an Ocracat. I am very excited about that! Also there are free exercise classes M, W, F at the Community Center at 7:30am. Thai Moon's food is outstanding! We just picked up our new kitten! -- Pam, Phil & Camilla, Maryland

May 2010
Ocracoke is our favorite place on earth. This is the earliest we have ever came in the year and it was perfect. Perfect sunshine, perfect small crowds, perfect restaurant experiences. We fished everyday, caught a few. Re-newed our wedding rows. Enjoyed our entire week and the Scotch Bonnet is a charming beach house. Can't wait to come back. May try for a trip in the fall. -- Greg & Juanna Brown

January 2010
New Years 2010. My wife, dog and I all came over for the New Years weekend. Howard's is closed but there are other things taking place over here these days. The Scotch Bonnet is wonderful (clean & great location). We traveled from Beaufort, NC which is where I grew up. It has been extremely cold this weekend with p.m. temps into the teen's. The Ocracoke to Cedar Island Ferry is closed so we must drive around after taking the Hatteras ferry due to wind gusts over 40mph. Great place! We'll be back!! -- Kelly & Laran Shyron

November 2009
Thanksgiving Week 2009. What a delightful week! After a very long drive and ferry ride from Augusta, Ga. We were elated when we arrived and walked into The Scotch Bonnet. The seafood from the fish market was such a treat. We loved Howard's Pub. We walked on the beach every day. We'll be back sometime-same Scotch Bonnet next year ("God willing and the creeks don't rise") -- Bill & Ellen Bottomley

October 2009
We have stayed in many different places in Ocracoke over the past 11 years and The Scotch Bonnet is one of our absolute favorites! We stayed here several years ago and enjoyed it then, but now, since the renovation, it is even more adorable! We've had a wonderful and very relaxing extended weekend here and the weather was even great for the beach the first 2 days. Then a storm came in but after the rain left we explored Springer's Point and also Hammock Hills nature area. They were both worth the time spent. We rode our bikes, walked on the beach, enjoyed the warm sunshine, ate fantastic seafood at The Cafe Atlantic, Howard's, and Dajio and just generally relaxed. This is a beautiful place, and we will definitely return. -- Jan & Joy Tobias, Waynesboro, VA

October 2009
What a great way to spend our fall break. Thank you so much for sharing your lovely cottage! Our stay was short but sweet and memorable. We've been to Ocracoke before but just day trips so this is the first time we've stayed on the island. It was our dog Charley's first trip so we did a lot of walking. We loved Springer's Point and the beach. We went to Howard's, of course, for our favorite spiced steamed shrimp. Last night we ate at the Back Porch. Even the rain couldn't dampen our spirits. We would love to stay here again when we come back.

October 2009
After many years of vacationing on Ocracoke with my family, I convinced my husband to come here; just the 2 of us! The cottage is lovely and just perfect for 2 people! We spent our week going to the beach, bike riding, (I showed my husband all the neat spots I remembered as a child) going to the Coffee Shop (great smoothies & internet), checking out all the gift shops and we ate out at a few spots. Our favorites being Pony Island and Jason's. It was nice to relax on the beach where there weren't crowds of people. We even got to catch up with an old friend of mine (a pen-pal from childhood whom I hadn't seen in about 9 years!) it was so good to see some familiar friends on the island. My husband loves it here and we're planning a return trip after the arrival of our first-born, which will hopefully be soon! We loved the timeless quality of our surroundings along with the seclusion of Ocracoke Island! -- Emily & Stu Franks

September 2009
After more than 30 years coming to Ocracoke we still appreciate it's charm and wonderful people. Stayed at lots of homes on the island and Scotch Bonnet is cozy, well decorated and extremely convenient. Enjoyed the trip immensely as always. -- Randy & Tom, Pasadena, MD

September 2009
This is my 4th time in Ocracoke but my husband's first. We loved staying at The Scotch Bonnet. A great cottage for two people and very close to where my family stayed. We rode our bikes everywhere, spent every day at the beach and enjoyed our evenings dining with family. Great weather all week! The Scotch Bonnet was the perfect little cottage for our get-away and I hope to be back!
-- Tom & Olivia, Indianapolis, Indiana

September 2009
This is our 5th visit to Ocracoke but the 1st to The Scotch Bonnet. Have had a hard time finding something that wasn't too big. This place is perfect. Great location! We went fishing on "Miss Kathleen". You can take your fish to the Pony Island Restaurant and they will cook it for $9 with 2 sides! Went to Portsmouth, the town was interesting, the beach was great (lots of shells), but the mosquitoes were pretty bad and we were prepared! … Cafe Atlantic and Dajio was good eating. We're leaving tomorrow and crying all the way. It was nice to meet Susan.
-- Pam & Phil, Galesville, MD

August 2009
This is our first stay on Ocracoke Island however our 8th year in the Outer Banks. We absolutely love the Scotch Bonnet! It was very 'beachy' and had awesome decor . We rented bikes which came in very handy and was excellent transportation for getting around the island! Just remember to always lock your bikes! Ours were 'borrowed' during the night but later found safe and sound. We ate at Howard's Pub which has excellent crab cakes, climbed the Hatteras Lighthouse, climbed Jockey's Ridge in Nags Head, ate at Jimmy's Seafood and visited many shops! We will definitely be back next summer for our 9th year. Thank you for the beautiful accommodations. -- Crystal & Reid

August 2009
This was our first visit to Ocracoke and we fell in love with it! The Scotch Bonnet was a cozy little home away from home, perfectly located. We loved the Ocracoke Coffee Company, The Flying Melon, & The Back Porch. We also went to the Ocrafolk Opry, visited all the cute little shops, bought some delicious fig preserves at the Village Craftsman…and we got engaged!! Thank you for a delightful home base for our adventures. We'll be back. -- Kim, Eric & Poobah, Silver Spring, MD

July 2009
This was our 1st visit to Ocracoke…and we love it here! We will be back! What a relaxing little village untouched by the corporate commercial world. We enjoyed our week on 'island time' and our 2 dogs loved our beach visits. If you're looking for good eats, The Back Porch and Howard's Pub were our favorites. The Scotch Bonnet was so adorable and it felt like home. We hated the mosquitoes and biting flies. After trying several bug sprays, we found the 'Off' Backwoods spray to be the best. We had so much fun. Thank God this place allowed us to bring our 2 babies (the dogs)!

-- Rick & Stephanie, Dolce & Daisy, Baltimore, MD

July 2009
This is our second time on Ocracoke and we are very happy we came back! We love the village and love the beach. Our dogs really like it, too. This is our first time at the Scotch Bonnet and we really enjoyed it. It's perfect for two people with 2 dogs. The decor is lovely and the bathroom wonderful. Apart from the beach, we enjoyed strolling around on the island, having smoothies and coffee at the coffee shop and eating out. We look forward to coming back!
-- Jacqueline & Paul and Oscar & Flora (the dogs), Pittsburg, PA

July 2009
June 19, 2009. We thought the most redeeming feature of Scotch Bonnet-it's location- provided easy access for most of the amenities like the grocery store, the library, the Pub, the best restaurants and the ATM machine. We recommend supporting the only Fish Co-op and cooking fresh fish like Pompano, Tile Fish & Drum. Life is Good! -- Catherine & James

June 2009
We had another great week here on Ocracoke. The weather was perfect. Even the storm last night provided a beautiful rainbow. Thanks for a perfect vacation!
-- John, Bonnie & Lilly (dog)

May 2009
Thank you for providing such a wonderful little heaven for us mainlanders! This little retreat is very well thought-out and decorated to promote rest and restoration. My husband, our little dog, and I needed a break from the big city and distracting life-and the life on Ocracoke and your little cottage provided that. I can tell that you too know that the spirit needs to be rejuvenated and have taken the time, many other owners have not, to make a perfect place for rest. We will be back!
