Testimonials

September 2011
This was our third year coming to Ocracoke and our third stay at The Sea Shack. The cottage is still perfect for us and our pets. We appreciate the many updates this year-especially the fenced yard and the DVD player. We seem to find something new to do each year at Ocracoke. This year we went on a fishing excursion with Capt. Ryan O'Neal on the Tarheel. He was a terrific guide and helped us catch a pile of fish-blue, Spanish mackerel and flounder. We did a lot of cooking "at home" this year. Our new restaurant find this summer was Cafe Atlantic-their seafood is excellent. The Flying Melon, however, continues to be our island favorite. Thanks for sharing your house. We love it and plan to be back next year.

The Sea Shack is a perfect place for a relaxing stay for a small family and a pet. The screened porch is a great place to spend time, with a comfy hammock swing. It's a very friendly, welcoming cottage, and is well outfitted to become your home away from home while vacationing on Ocracoke! -- Margaret

Honeymoon week! What a fabulous time the Sea Shack provided for us! Super comfy and cozy! The doggies loved it too! We loved how close it was to the local bars & shops. Who would think such a small place could bring so many fabulous memories. We brought a friend along that came to join us on Thursday, the weather was amazing...except for crazy winds and weather on Saturday. I don't want to go home! Zillie's provided fabulous beers as well did Dajio's and Smacnally's (best French fries ever) as well as every other place here. We love it here, 8 years in a row and I'm ready to stay forever (except for the mosquitoes)! Thanks Ocracoke & The Sea Shack! -- Jami & Jason and Bohdan & Ross

September 2009
The Sea Shack's been home for only one week. Ducks we adored and the weather-not bad! The pace is so laid back-what we had in mind. Not one 'sour' person did we ever find!
Our little dog MooShu was not sure about sand, But she loved all the long walks on 'regular land'! Looking for shells and swinging in swings. Makes most of life's concerns take off with wings. The food here is great and all service first rate! But…brunches at the Flying Melon make that a date!! The Sea Shack's been lots of fun, by quacky! -- Bob, Carol & MooShu Turnbon, Montoursville, PA

August 2009
Well, it's almost time for us to leave. Our vacation here has been so rejuvenating, we're sad to see it come to an end seemingly so quickly. This morning we drove out to the 2nd ramp (normally drive on beach) to see the effects of Hurricane Bill, about 900 miles off the coast. The surf (at low tide) had risen all the way to the foot of the dunes. Large, crashing, rolling waves were loud in our ears as our bare feet squelched through the foamy brine all around. Hard to believe just 2 days ago we had driven our car up on that sandy shore and out another 200 ft. I won't soon forget our happy hours out there, our dog leaping over waves and fetching a ball. Out 18 month old painting herself in wet sand and toddling fearlessly into the surf (her first time at the beach)! We had a festive bonfire there with our friends one night. And the stars we saw! Incredible. So many more than in the city. The Sea Shack felt like home to us. Our toddler even started to call it "home". Great location to walk to: The Coffee Shop-Delicious, cool hangout, SmackNally's-watch fisherman, drink beer, Jolly Roger-great band, Springer's Point-great tidal pool for toddler to splash and to dig for clams (yummy dinner). Shopping, ice cream, dog walks, bikes, Bingo night.
Love the local ducks and Howards Pub too. Love Sea Shack colors, amenities, fenced yard, stained glass windows, pots/pans. -- First Timers-Tiffany, Jasper, Ansley & dog Jake

August 2009
This was out first stay at the Sea Shack as well as the island itself, but the house is so adorable and fits my husband and I very well. We really enjoy the hammock swing and screened porch especially on the rainy days we've had. The ducks are adorable! We love the location. As for the island we love it; we've visited before but never stayed and this week has been amazing. Food places we've loved have been: Howards Pub-we give 5 stars, and the Flying Melon-we give 5 stars. Those were out favorites. Every night we've gotten ice cream from the Slushy Stand (very cheap and delicious). As for fun we rented jet ski's for an hour; very fun! Have fun!! Enjoy your stay here at the Sea Shack!!
Sincerely,
-- Jefferey & Amanda Blake - Winchester, VA

We had a good time. It was fun. A great spot for a house. Good movies & duckies!!
Jack L, Age 12, Durham, NC
This is our third summer on Ocracoke and our third house-this location is by far the best. So nice not to have cars going by-just a few bikes now and then. We shared the lane with our friends from Durham who rented "Rella's" next door. A great time. Cute house!

July 2009
Another wonderful week in the Sea Shack. The newly fenced backyard was nice and the return of the linens was a great surprise. This year the boys were back, so I didn't get to do as many girl activities as I would have liked. Jenny (the dog) and I walked a lot, not just around the beach but around the island. This year the mosquitoes were fierce and also because of the offshore storms-Portuguese man of war washed up on the beach. Today I saw 3, one of which was still alive and very beautiful. However, I resisted the urge to "rescue" it.

May 2009
We were here for a week. The Sea Shack was cute & nice island. We had a great time and recommend Howard's Pub. The ocean and beach at the sound, accessible via the nature trail were the best. P.S. If your dog isn't familiar with sand, watch him! Ours ate sand and got very sick and needed vet care! Nags Head Animal Hospital is in Avon on Wednesday's and Friday's. They were very good! OIR has their number.

Our fourth stay The Sea Shack is coming to a close. (I lose track of the time here and had to look at the calendar). We've enjoyed the beach and the restaurants as usual. Sunday through Wednesday were cold, windy and rainy, reminding us of other chilly Mays in Ocracoke! I think we first came to the island about 1965…We've seen lots of changes but the waves rolling onto the beach have remained the same and keep us coming back for long walks. People still fly kites and build sand castles, romp in the surf with their dogs and children, and put up colorful umbrellas. Photos taken 40 years ago look about the same as those taken last year-lots of sky, dunes and ocean. The porch at Sea Shack is a fire place to write memories! -- Barbara & Sidney Tedford, Elkins, West Virginia

We have enjoyed our stay here at The Sea Shack. Spent most of our time on the porch in the hammock, very relaxing! The ducks seem to be part of the family, we'll miss them when we go back home. Went shopping everyday, twice to the beach, took lots of photos, and ate out a lot. Hope to come again. The weather has been great!

May 2009
This was my & my husband Jeff's second trip to Ocracoke (we came here on our honeymoon in Oct. 2006) and our first stay at The Sea Shack. It was our 10 month old son Leo's first trip to Ocracoke, as well as the first trip here for our dogs Max & Louise. We love The Sea Shack! We spend most of our time on the porch. Leo loved the hammock swing! And the dogs loved barking at all the passer byers-including horses! The first they've ever seen. When we weren't on the porch, we were eating our way through Ocracoke! Some culinary highlights: great al fresco lunches at the Jolly Roger & Smacknally's; an awesome burger & blue fish at the Creekside Cafe; pizza for lunch at Jason's and delicious chicken parmesan takeout dinner from Jason's one night; the best Asian takeout food ever from Thai Moon (only open Thurs-Sun, check & plan ahead) Cashew chicken to die for; a lovely brunch at Flying Melon; and amazing dinner at the Back Porch and Cafe Atlantic. Leo got to play in the sand and build his first sand castle at the beach (mom helped) and take his first dip in the ocean. The weather was perfect most of the week. On our last night here we made hot dogs out on the grill and got to enjoy some live music drifting over from the Jolly Roger. Oh, also on our last day here, I had an incredible massage from Laura Hardy at the Stillwater Spa just up the street on Back Road. I am so relaxed. We all we're a little worried about re-entry back into mainland life!
P.S. In true dingbatter fashion, Jeff took the dogs to the beach and got our Non-4WD car hopelessly stuck in the sand. Luckily, two fishermen here for a tournament came by and rescued him! Leo & I were just sitting here at the shack swinging on the porch thinking, they've been gone so long; they must be having a great time! -- Paula, Jeff, Leo, Max & Louise Hendrickson, Raleigh, NC
