Ocracoke Island Silver Lake Harbor in the Fall

Is there anything better than a sleepy beach town during a season that celebrates a slower pace of living? I think not!

Escape to Ocracoke Island in the fall to truly get away from it all. Our little stretch of sand doesn't completely shut down, but the town empties out a little bit and the beaches beckon for long strolls.

So what's the weather like? Well, picture a really warm and cozy "Football Sunday" kind of fall day... but mix in some extra sunshine and salty beach air. That's one great combination! In all seriousness, the weather is very pleasant. Warm rays of golden sun kiss the beaches and village amidst gentle breezes.

Ocracoke in the Fall

If you're looking for events and activities off the beach, you'll be pleasantly surprised at the options you have. Ocracoke is home to dozens of small shops and tour operations, plus there are a handful of fall events like Blackbeard's Pirate Jamboree. Every year, over the last weekend in October, Blackbeard's Pirate Jamboree entertains locals and visitors alike with a full schedule of story telling, costumed actors, and even a battle reenactment with live cannon fire! Many visitors dress in costume and it's encouraged by the organizers. It'll be a great time for all that "ARRR" with you.

Fall also happens to be one of the best seasons for fishing on Ocracoke Island. From the surf, anglers catch numerous species year round... but the fall months present the best opportunity to catch the largest ocean flounder as well as red drum. Wading out or fishing the sloughs, surf-casters can find themselves in nonstop action when schools of drum pass by and many other fish remain present near shore. If you'd rather test your sea legs, there are also inshore and offshore charters available. For extra information about fishing on Ocracoke Island, checkout the Tradewinds Tackle Facebook page.
