Celebrate Independence Day July 3rd and 4th on Ocracoke Island
The Ocracoke Civic & Business Association and Hyde County invite everyone to join the Independence Day festivities.
July 3rd Events
Festivities kick off with an island-wide scavenger hunt.
In the evening, DJ Tommy Hutcherson will spin dance tunes and patriotic songs at the National Park Service docks for the Pre-Fireworks Celebration.
When the sun goes down, a spectacular fireworks display will be launched from the large National Park Service parking area located at the southern end of the island. Fireworks will be visible anywhere around Silver Lake Harbor.
July 4th brings celebrations throughout the day and into the night
The 41st Annual Sand Sculpture Contest will take place at the Lifeguard Beach. Cash prizes will be awarded. Online registration available.
The Ocracoke Lighthouse will be open for viewing. All are welcome to see inside the base of the lighthouse and talk with Ocracoke resident and historian, Chester Lynn.
The popular “Old Time Independence Day Parade” is a favorite of residents and visitors. Everyone is encouraged to sign up to participate in the parade which features a procession of floats, decorated golf carts, bicycles and walkers. This year’s theme is The Roaring 20s: Then & Now. Cash prizes will be awarded. Online registration available.
The lawn of Books to be Red will be the site of the singing of the national anthem and awards presentation for the Parade and Sand Sculpture Contest. Enjoy storytelling with Donald Davis. Bring your lawn chair.
A “Community Beach Bonfire Under the Stars” will take place at the Lifeguard Beach. Bring your beach blankets, chairs, marshmallows, and roasting sticks. Lifeguards will remain on duty until 8 p.m.
