The National Park Service on Ocracoke is offering a variety of Summer nature and history focused programs for adults and children.
Glimpe Inside the Base of the Lighthouse
Be sure to stop by the Ocracoke Lighthouse Tues-Fri 11am-5pm. Park rangers are available to answer questions and offer a glimpse inside the base of the lighthouse.
Learn about Nature and the History of Ocracoke
Learn about the history of Ocracoke including the legacy of Blackbeard the Pirate, a presentation on the shaping of barrier islands including hurricanes, winds, ocean current and wars. Learn about the role Ocracoke and the Outer Banks played during wartime. Meet outside the NPS Visitors Center.
Meet at the pony pasture for an introduction to the Ocracoke ponies, decendants of those that once roamed the island. Take a beach walk with a ranger to learn about what calls the beach its home. Both events take place about 8 miles from the NPS Visitors Center.
