Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the Ocracoke community will celebrate the summer’s fig bounty in a new and innovative way. During the week of August 1-8, 2020, many of the festival’s usual events will be transformed into online versions.
The weeklong event will celebrate Ocracoke Island’s “Sweetest Tradition.” Festival attendees on and off Ocracoke Island can tune in to the Ocracoke Fig Festival’s YouTube channel or Facebook page for daily videos on how to preserve, bake, and cook with figs. There will be Ocracoke Village fig tree tours, interviews with local fig experts and connoisseurs, and even music.
Don’t miss the deadline! Submit your photos by July 31st. Photos of fig trees, figs on trees, fig leaves, figs in bowls. Get creative! Visit the Ocracoke Fig Festival Facebook page for details.
