This past weekend, the Ocrafolk Festival presented three magical days of entertainment, inspiration and fun. The center of activity took place in the heart of Ocracoke Village at the corner of School Road and historic Howard Street.
Festivities kicked off early Friday afternoon and ran through the evening featuring an eclectic mix of music performed on the Live Oak Stage, a unique outdoor venue nestled among live oaks and cedar trees. Friday evening’s performances also included dinnertime Jazz at the Ocracoke Oyster Company and progressive bluegrass at Gaffers Sports Pub.
Saturday’s events began early and ran throughout the day featuring music, storytelling, dance and workshops for all ages on four different outdoor stages. So much to enjoy!
Children participated in events throughout the festival including face painting, creating fish print t-shirts, learning to juggle with Jef the Mime and plenty more.
School Road and Howard Street hosted artisans and craftspeople from Ocracoke Island, nearby Coastal Carolina towns and beyond.
Attendees strolled the festival grounds where delicious food was available.
Anticipation grew for adults and children alike as the parade of the Paperhand Puppets amazed the crowd.
Saturday evening included music, a square dance, silent auction, and more dance at several locations throughout Ocracoke Village.
Sunday festivities started off with a gospel sing followed by a day of music at the Live Oak Stage.
For children, there was an afternoon of more fun activities.
At day’s end, festival performers gathered for an All Star Jam.
For those who attend the Ocracoke Festival every year and those interested in planning their first visit, the 2019 Ocrafolk Festival will take place June 7th, 8th and 9th.
