HOLIDAY SEASON ON OCRACOKE ISLAND

OCRACOKE ISLAND IS A HIDDEN GEM IN THE WINTER

The holiday season is a magical time to be on the island. Enjoy holiday light displays and a quiet holiday with loved ones away from the hustle and stress of daily life.

Known for its pristine beaches, this iconic summer destination is often overlooked as the weather becomes cooler. But locals know that the best time to be here is throughout the fall and winter months when the crowds dissipate and the temperatures remain pleasantly mild. Ocracoke Island boasts beautiful cool, but not too cold, temperatures through the winter months. The average high in December is around 57 and the low is 43. Winter days can offer calm winds with bright blue clear skies or occasional windy conditions, so come prepared with layers.

Plan a winter getaway to Ocracoke Island to celebrate the holidays this season.

While the calendar isn’t nearly as full as it normally is this time of the year, be sure to enjoy Ocracoke Village decorated in holiday lights and the annual parade of boats.

HIKING AND BIKING

With the temperatures averaging in the high 50s, this time of the year is perfect for enjoying the outdoors of Ocracoke Island. Plus, you’ll find few people out on the trails. The walking trails at Springers Point Nature Preserve and Hammock Hills Nature Trail are great spots for hiking. Biking to Springer’s Point is the perfect plan as there is no parking available at the preserve. A paved multi-use trail runs from Ocracoke Village to the National Park Service Campground beach and Hammock Hills Nature Trail. Along the way, you will pass two additional convenient beach access areas to explore.

 BEACHES

The beaches of Ocracoke Island are perfect for quiet and solitude during the winter. Enjoy listening to the crash of the waves with virtually no one else in sight.
