Amazing Views
With its eight large Living room windows, Ms. Joy Bell puts on a vivid display at both sunrise and sunset- the only Ocracoke property I’ve rented (and there have been many) where you can see both from the same room. The marsh and beyond it, the sound, are right in front of you. In addition, all the beds are comfortable and have reading lights, the appliances work, and there’s plenty of seating for six at the dinner table. Each bedroom has its own bathroom.Yes, as another review mentioned, the furniture is well worn and some of the blinds are broken- we just left them up. The kitchen faucet makes a weird high-pitched sound when you use it. If you’re looking for perfection, this isn’t the best place for you. But for our group of six adults and two dogs, it was wonderful.

Renters be aware that the furnishings in the home are old, broken down and stained. Clock in living room was broken: clock hands lying at bottom of clock; water rings on end tables; stains on furniture cushions and on all 3 bedroom mattresses; dead insects in the window ledges; blinds in windows are broken, many with gaping holes; mirrors in upper level bath are missing or ancient; broken glass and rusted furniture in covered entry; there isn’t a closet in the upper level master; books in den are ancient; as mentioned by May 2019 reviewer, floors are in bad shape. The view of the sound is currently the only thing accurately pictured in the property’s photographs. Unfortunately the home’s current state of uncleanliness and disrepair made it impossible for us to stay more than the couple of hours needed to switch to a different property. We are grateful to Barbara at OIR, who was on call, for her help-we were ready to take the next available ferry back home.

Nice place to stay. Was great for the dog since floors were not in great shape. Very well stocked house. Spacious and nice screen porch. Good location close to coffee shop, Back porch Rest, Flying Melon and some shops.
