CELEBRATE FIGS AT THE 6TH ANNUAL OCRACOKE FIG FESTIVAL
Ocracoke’s history of a passion for figs is celebrated annually at the Ocracoke Fig Festival, taking place this year on August 16th and 17th. This family friendly event is a favorite of both locals and visitors.
ESCAPE TO OCRACOKE ISLAND
In addition to miles of pristine beaches, an abundance of fresh local seafood and the legend of Blackbeard the Pirate, Ocracoke is also known for figs. While figs have always been popular with Ocracoke residents, visitors certainly have joined in the appreciation of this locally grown fruit and the history of Ocracoke Figs.
CELEBRATE OCRACOKE’S HISTORY
The Ocracoke Fig Festival celebrates Ocracoke’s past and preserves this island tradition for future generations.
ALL THINGS FIG
Learn about Ocracoke’s fig history and culture. Get tempted with Fig Cake samples. There will be a fig marketplace, featuring local vendors selling Fig Preserves, Fig Trees, and all things Fig-tastic! Bring the kids for old-fashioned crafts, games and family fun. There will be a traditional square dance, live music and a dance.
New this year, join “The Savory Side of Figs”, a ticketed event featuring figgy heavy hors d’oeuvres and sample entrees from Ocracoke restaurants accompanied by beer, wine, and fig-infused tea.
The fun begins Friday afternoon with a Porch Talk at the Ocracoke Preservation Society Museum at 4pm presented by Chester Lynn, Ocracoke's fig expert.
New this year is “The Savory Side of Figs” from 5–7pm in the Museum. This ticketed event ($20 per person) will feature figgy heavy hors d’oeuvres and sample entrees from Ocracoke restaurants accompanied by beer, wine, and fig-infused tea. Space is limited; reserve a ticket by calling 252-928-7375.

The annual Fig Preserve Tasting Contest begins at 5:30pm and offers festival-goers a chance to sample several varieties of fig preserves and vote for their favorites. (Tasting tickets are $3 each.)
There will also be free fig cake samples for all. Beer, wine, and soft drinks will be available for purchase.
Saturday's events begin at 10am with vendor booths (selling all things fig-tastic!), live music from local musicians, storytelling, fun for kids, and more during the day on the OPS Museum grounds until 5pm.
THE FIG CAKE BAKE-OFF
Saturday presents the tasty showpiece of the Fig Festival, the Fig Cake Bake-Off. Everyone is welcome to submit a cake in one or both categories, Traditional or Innovative. There is even a children's contest. A delicious feature of the event is the free sampling of fig cake after the judging.
