Marlene is a native Ocracoker. Her family has called the island home for many generations, and she cares deeply about the island way of life. 

Marlene has worked in real estate for many years. Her career has included many aspects of island work. From waitressing and painting, to builder and renovator. Her first renovation was her grandfather’s house “The Thurston House Inn”, which she rebuilt and added an annex so the inn could survive another generation of the Gaskill-Gaskins families.
