I loved staying at the Back House. It was clean, comfortable, and inviting. Lots of artistic touches too. The living room and bedroom furniture were comfy. Plenty of plates, pans, and utensils in the kitchen. Light was abundant. The TV had enough channels for me. The bedrooms also had sufficient storage. Lots of wooden pegs everywhere, including in the screened-in porch. The A/C kept me very cool during a record setting heat wave. The fan upstairs pulled up the cool air up and kept it circulating. Ladies, there was a hair dryer in the bathroom! And the laundry room, in a large shed, was clean and off the ground next to a pottery shed. Initially, I was skittish about an outdoor laundry room But once I got there I had no problems using it although cold water was the source to clean with. Not an issue for me. The big draw for me was the outdoor shower - again above the ground. No bugs, frogs or other critters. Spacious with hot and cold water and plenty of pegs for towels and clothes. Steve and Marty, the owners, thought of everything. I liked having them nearby for questions. They were helpful and friendly. Marty makes pottery - how cool is it to have a resident potter. I enjoyed chatting with this couple. They both gave me lots of space too so I retained a sense of privacy. The Back House has a wonderful vibe. The attention to detail in the home is apparent. You can tell it was made with love. The location was a central one in Ocracoke - near to the hub of the village while still being secluded. You can walk to the Front Porch and Ocracoke Coffee. I just had a wonderful experience on Ocracoke, as usual. And the Back House added to that. Thank you Steve and Marty AND Ocracoke Realty!

We enjoyed our stay at the Back Porch. Island is as my husband described, quiet and easy going, as he goes there twice yearly to fish. Would say the only thing we seemed to have a bit of a challenge with was getting something to watch on TV. Outside of that, all good!

We had an excellent time during our stay at the Back House on Ocracoke Island. While it rained for a day and a half of our three day stay, the owner offered us an extra night for free (which, unfortunately, we couldn’t take advantage of). The house was well kept, charming and comfortable. The island itself is well worth checking out.

Classic wooden house off Back Road. Close enough to walk to everything, far enough to be peaceful. Warm stained wood throughout. Snug but comfortable for up to 4 (one queen and two twins). Huge live oaks shade the yard and deck. Looking forward to returning.

We found rustic charm here and a snippet of a simpler way of life. We came in early Spring, when the weather still made access to and from the island unpredictable, but our stay was quite relaxing. There was an issue with property at first, but the management company took our call on a weekend and the owners quickly fixed it: Steve and Marty, are lovely people.

My brother and I loved your place. We were fishing the entire time. We were only there to sleep. Still a great place and peaceful. We will be back in the spring. Thank you so much. Sorry it took so long to leave a review, it was back to work as usual. You have a very nice place. So great to talk to the owner. Super nice.

We really enjoyed our stay. The house is centrally located yet quiet. It was neatly decorated and very cozy. The neighbor greeted us with delicious figs and vegetables from his garden.

The location is excellent! Right in the middle of everything. The unit itself is very cozy. Perfect for two couples and you could even put a couple kids on air mattress upstairs if you wanted. The owner also lives nearby and is very nice. We’d definitely stay here again.

The house was very clean and plenty of room for our stay. Very convenient to everything. Our only suggestion is to either provide fans or install ceiling fans in bedrooms. Even with the air conditioner on (can’t drop below 68) it was very stuffy in bedrooms. We tried opening windows but not good with humidity/rain. Also very talkative rooster in the area ?Great stay and would come again!
