SV21: Happy Place

The Happy Place really is my happy place. Loved the screened front porch with rockers and swing. Love the quiet side street and back yard. It was clean and comfortable and well equipped. This was my third stay here, and sure hope to return. Realty company is easy to work with and provided all the necessary information.

Happy Place was very quaint and had a nice “beach” feeling. The kitchen was well set up with dishes and cooking equipment. Loved the fact that it had a gas stove and cast iron skillets!!!! The kitchen is small, but we just learned (quickly) to work around each other. The beds were very comfortable. The guys LOVED the fact that the out door shower had hot water. They showered out there every time. It is a very nice cottage. I’d stay there again if we return to Okracoke

I disliked having to personally deal with Silicon travel for internet issues. They never returned any calls until this morning, and our 2 week stay lasted until Sunday Oct 8. I had told them my husband had health issues and Dr appts, and pkease let us know if we would have internet at any time before the 8th. We checked for internet everyrday to see if we had to cancek his video medical appts which were online while we were away, and cancelled them day by day since we never got internet. Then while I was at work someone from Silicon travel called to say rhey needed to get into the house, meanwhile several large dogs were barking at him and sounded like they wanted to break down the door. They never had a way t o contact the new renters. There must be a better system. I am sure the new renters also have had issues with the remote for the tv that works sometimes but mostly doesn't. Anyway, 1 star for silicon for their lack of contact. The downstairs bed is pretty bad, I hope the new owners get a new boxspring at least.

The home is old, but solidly built and very loved. It had everything that we needed. My family of 4 and 2 big dogs had a great stay. Great location, very private. We rented bikes and rode everywhere. The food on the island is way expensive and choices are limited, so we brought groceries from home and prepared almost all of our meals in the well equipped kitchen. There was a tropical storm that hit rhe island during our stay, but we felt very safe in the house. We love the island and the house and would definitely stay here again.

We had a great stay in this lovely home. It was very quiet and peaceful. Everything worked well and the kitchen had all needed utensils and pots and pans. Plenty of space for my family of 4 and 2 big dogs. The island is wonderful, we walked and biked almost everywhere. The restaurant choices are limited and severely overpriced, so it was awesome to have a great kitchen to cook meals.

SV21 needs a little love, & ideally the owners (fairly new, I was told) will give it some. It has some charming elements: a really big upstairs with three beds & its own sitting room & TV, a wonderful claw-foot tub in the master bathroom, comfortable beds (we slept very well), & a nice, fairly private backyard with dining table. The yard is fully fenced, which is great for dog owners. It’s always nice to find pet-friendly rentals, so props to the owners for that. The online images are kind of deceptive. The place looks much brighter & roomier in the photos. In person, the main area with living room, dining room, & kitchen is pretty dark, even with blinds drawn up. It feels a bit gloomy, or perhaps cozy if you like that cabin feeling. There were some housekeeping/maintenance issues, like torn screens on front & back doors, & one of the AC ducts to the upstairs was too crimped to function. We communicated these to OIR, so hopefully they will address the concerns. The appliances all worked well, & the kitchen has lots of dishes & utensils. There’s a shower in the bath off the kitchen, but it’s a bit cramped. Part of the floor by the shower has been replaced by a bare board. There were no bath mats, so you may need to bring your own if you want them. The location is handy for getting to Ocracoke Coffee & restaurants on the Back Road, so that’s a plus. We’ve always enjoyed the island, wherever we’ve stayed, & we’ve almost always rented from OIR. They’ve been very responsive, & that’s appreciated. SV21 is the only place in more than a dozen years of visits that wasn’t quite as I expected/hoped, & that’s a very good record.

We loved the old beach cottage charm! I cannot wait to see how the new owners enhance the beauty and charm of this very well appointed cottage. Perfect for our blended 20 something's and our fur babies. The back yard was amazing and we enjoyed an outdoor movie in comfort.

We loved staying at Happy Place. The kitchen was well stocked with everything you could need. We loved the knotty pine boards in the house. We liked the old Ocracoke feel of the house and neighborhood. Short walk to everything the island offers. The screened in porch and decking was wonderful to enjoy the breeze and listen to the doves. The fenced in yard was perfect for our small dog. We will definately be staying here again.

Loved our week at the Happy Place. Cozy cottage with fenced backyard, easy walk or short drive to restaurants and tram stop. Kitchen had everything we needed. Quiet and peaceful.

The island is great! The house definitely needs some work, and due to the dark wood it’s….well, it’s dark inside. I’d love to see it lightened up. Lots of potential there.

I read reviews that won’t great but, it turned out good there was a crock-pot, and coffee maker. All of this was great we were there for the pirate parade and it was fun kids had a great time. Not super fancy but perfect for our little family. Thank you for a great stay.
