UT16: Off The Beaten Path

Off the Beaten Path is a lovely cottage - clean, tidy, bright, and tucked into some trees with a screen porch. The cottage is close to 1718 Brewery, Howard’s Pub, and the Variety Store (although nothing in the village is far away). The closest beach access is a quick drive (1-2 miles). We’d definitely stay here again!

The house itself was fine. No problems with the HVAC, electrical, plumbing or washer and dryer. However, not a single TV remote would work. Please have the maintenance staff replace all the batteries in the remotes.

We really enjoyed our stay here. The house was perfect for our family of four. My kids (age 6 and 4) loved the upstairs loft room and it was a super cute space. My kids enjoyed the books and toys up there also. The place was small but comfortable. The outdoor shower was great. I wish it had a bathtub but otherwise it had everything we needed!

The cabin was very nice inside. Really enjoyed sitting on the screened in porch away from the bugs. The room upstairs was extremely cosy and all the games, toys and books were a welcome pastime during rainy days. island realty was quick to fix a couple of issues we had. However, the washer and stove need tp be replaced. Washer only works if you place weight on the lid and two of the four burners did not work. I wish they had checked on this before the stay as I really don’t want to deal with maintenance issues during vacation.

As soon as I saw the cottage nestled among the trees, I quit worrying about not having a view of the lake ... for the first time in 40 years of vacationing in Ocracoke. From every room greenery could be seen; it was paradise. The cottage was very clean, quiet, well equipped. We relaxed so well we failed to do any of our traditional things. What peace!!! We are already planning out next trip and will be staying here again. There is a multitude of light switches so figuring those out took awhile as did using the Roku tv. Small things in a wonderful cottage.

The home was clean, cute and cozy. A couple of recommended improvements: the house could use more curtains (only the bedroom on the main floor has them), and the shower needs updating (at a minimum, the shower head should be adjusted to spray down and not at the built in seat, which makes the standing room very cramped).

I really liked Off The Beaten Path. I wanted to live there. It was cozy and had everything I needed. I loved the clothesline and clothespins. All appliances worked exceedingly well. Loved the icemaker. Nice water flow in the house. After help from Rene all channels on living room TV were available. I think the owner tried to think of everything to make the house useful as well as enjoyable. I really wanted to applaud the tasteful decor. Loved the living room alcove. Suggestions: I did not use coffee pots. I'd get a newer one. I used a drip coffee filter I brought. I bought a small rug (taking it home) to put in the kitchen at the entryway to get final sand off my feet. Really helped. Yes I used the outdoor shower too. That was great! I washed the bedspread and shams just because that was not done every time a guest changed. While it didn't make a difference to me, vinyl place mats for the dining room table might be nice. Ragpickers had some. I actually started to buy some and leave as a gift. Can you tell I was ready to move in? I want to applaud Ocracoke Realty for its professionalism and helpfulness particularly during the bad weather. Warnings of ferry closings were very useful. Starting with Doreen who helped with reservation all of you were pleasantt, informative, and easy to work with. Thank you for helping to make my stay enjoyable. The village of Ocracoke is special because of its sense of community. That's why I love to visit it. Betty Holladay

We LOVED Off the Beaten Path! Location was perfect for us, just far enough out of the way to be quiet but still close to the village. We are super picky about cleanliness, and this place was spotless. We will be back in the future!
