WP1N: Pirate's Quay 1 North

Our stay at Pirates Quay North was fabulous!! Our condo was super clean and in good repair. Our bed was comfortable. Queen bed, dresser, TV, etc. Roomy and bright master bedroom. (We brought our own pillows based on other reviews so I can’t speak to their bed pillows one way or the other.) There were plenty of dishes, bowls, glasses, silverware and cookware. Toaster can accommodate bagels and the drip coffee pot worked perfectly! There was a thoughtful table and two chairs on front deck. Great sunset viewing spot (along with out on the dock). Good morning coffee spot also. Living room had couch and recliner and ottoman. Very nice dining table with chairs also facing the view (beautiful set) and connected kitchen that has everything you need. The master bedroom has walk in cedar closet and connected master bathroom. Shower has good pressure and was very clean. Nice storage in vanity drawers. There is a second full bathroom with shower and vanity with storage that is connected to master bath and also accessible via the living room and inches from the second bedroom (also queen bed). This bedroom has dresser and closet etc. Absolutely gorgeous sunsets across the lake!! Dock with bench and covered fish cleaning station are in great shape. The view couldn’t have been more perfect, honestly. We had applied for our ORV permit in advance (plus our 10 NC fishing licenses) and were able to drive our 4W drive truck right on to the beach for fishing, shelling and beach reading. Plenty of information was available about airing tires down first and then airing them back up after. Some local businesses have air hoses you can use (such as the local boat and tackle shop). We had brought our own though, but not necessary. Restaurants were all really good. We ate at the following and enjoyed them all (seriously). In no particular order- The Back Porch, Jason’s, The Oyster House, Sorella’s, sMacNally’s, El Mariachi and Ocracoke Ice Cream Company!! I shopped at Mermaid Folly’s (more inclusive sizing available and really nice shop!!) and my husband shopped at Ride the Wind Surf Shop and Tradewinds Bait and Tackle. All three shops were worth a visit and a purchase!! The people of Ocracoke were very friendly and helpful. We felt welcomed and comfortable the entire week. In truth, we didn’t want to leave. We WILL come back!!!!

Everything about dealing with OIR and its dedicated staff was fantastic as usual. The rental unit location and the dock amenity are outstanding. But there were a number of issues with the unit itself, and with how other unit occupants conducted themselves, that detracted from the experience.

While the view was incredible, including the view of the night sky from the included docks, there were a few things that would've made the rest of our stay better. For one, one of the chairs on the balcony broke while sitting in it, simply from being old and rotted. The door to the balcony was difficult to open and close, and was also very squeaky when opening all the way. Move in was a bit chaotic with everyone trying to figure out where to park and where to stow the golf carts for the week, but once settled, that was no longer an issue. Location was solid, being close to everything, but wasn't quite as quiet as other places we've stayed. Neighbors stomping around upstairs, road traffic all day, and the pond that formed in front of the condo after the rain were all minor annoyances that we can happily live with, but we're there a solution, would've made the stay that much better. Overall not a bad stay! We'll be looking for another place to stay next year, and just thought we should share a little feedback. Thanks for providing so many great places to stay on the island!

We always enjoy our visits to Ocracoke and this time was no different. We are economic travelers and know that often you get what pay for and so don’t spend a lot of time obsessing about accommodations. We have rarely been disappointed with our rental. We were overall quite pleased with our Pirates Quay rental. The view, location, and boat slip were great. There we noticed and hope sharing them is helpful. The base on one of the lights hanging over the bar is loose and the porch door handle and jam need some attention. The pillows probably need to be replaced. Cleaners may want to check underneath furniture when vacuuming. The laminated instruction card on the counter referred to clean towels being delivered on Wednesday when the cleaners came. We didn’t need nor had we expected cleaners to come, and as it turns out they didn’t, but I would have washed towels on our designated laundry day if I hadn’t seen that note (so maybe remove it if this isn’t standard practice). We’ve always been very impressed with Ocracoke Realty. From locating and reserving homes on the website to the helpful and informative emails and text messages, the communication is friendly and top notch. Can’t wait to come back.
